Musicians know this instinctively. You'd never see a guitarist walk onstage with an instrument they hadn't looked after. Strings get changed. Tuning gets checked. Cases get cleaned. Care isn't optional — it's part of the craft.

Somewhere along the way, voices got left out of that standard. We're taught to warm up, maybe drink some water, keep a cup of tea nearby — and then just hope. Hope it holds through the second set. Hope it doesn't crack on the high note. Hope three hours of recording doesn't leave us hoarse by the last episode.
